Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People, CAHJP (Arkhiyon ha-merkazi le-toldot ha-ʻam ha-Yehudi), Signature: (Sign. D-Ha2). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received this collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in July 2017.

Scope and Content

Official records of the National Association of the Jewish Communities of Lower Saxony (Landesverband der jüdischen Gemeinden von Niedersachsen) as well as the official records of the Jewish Community in Hannover (Jüdische Gemeinde Hannover) from the postwar period until the late 1960s. The collection consists of correspondence, financial documents, questionnaires, circulars, registers and reports relating to Jewish Holocaust survivals and the organization of their life after WWII.

Arranged in six series: 1. General Administration: Correspondence (Alphabetical order); 2. Financial documents and correspondence, 1952-1956 (Alphabetical order); 3. Buildings and construction: Correspondence with relatives on Jewish cemetery Hanover, 1947-1952 (Alphabetical order); 4. Questionnaires with personal data of the community members, 1954-1955 (Alphabetical order); 5. Correspondence, circulars, settlements, registers of school children in Hanover, 1953-1963 (Alphabetical order); 6. Correspondence and accounts for general welfare matters, and administration of Jewish retirement home, 1946-1951 (Alphabetical order).
