Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Istorijski arhiv Beograda (Historical Archives of Belgrade), Serbia. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in June 2017.

Scope and Content

The collection contains selected records of the Administration of the City of Belgrade (Fond 1) established by the collaborationist Government of Serbia under the authority of the German authorities in April of 1941. The bulk of the selected records include dossiers, correspondence files, reports of movable and unmovable assets of Jews in Belgrade etc. all kept by the Section No 7 created specifically for the persecution of Jews and Roma (Odeljenje za Jevreje i Cigane/ Sedmo odeljenje ) and other sections of the Special Serbian police department (Odeljenje specijalne policije) of the Belgrade City Administration. In addition this collection also includes personal dossiers and correspondence files related to the persecution and arrest of ethnic Serbs and Jews who were suspected in the subverted or clandestine Communist activities against German occupation during WWII.

System of Arrangement

Selected records arranged in five series: 1. Memorandums, orders and correspondence of the Chief of Special Security Police and the President of the Municipality of the city of Belgrade, 1941-1942; 2. Files of racial and religious profile of Jews and Roma. Limitation of freedom of movement of Jews and Roma, 1941; 3. Registers and other records of Jewish property, 1941; 4. List of Jewish population, and certifications from the books of Jewish marriages, 1929-1942; 5. Records of the Municipality of the city of Belgrade related to Jewish camps Zemun (Sajmištu), and Banjica (Belgrade, Serbia), 1942, and the mass executions in the village Skeli, August, 1941.
