Archival History

The bag was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2014 by Ernie Haas.

Scope and Content

Bag sent to Ernie Haas in the Kaiserwald concentration camp in Riga from his mother Frieda Steinberger Haas while she was in the Strassdenhof concentration camp, a sub-camp of Kaiserwald. Although they did not have contact and not able to see each other, Frieda was able to have this delivered to Ernie via another prisoner who was with a labor Kommando in Strassdenhof. In the little bag were two pieces of bread from her daily rations.
