Scope and Content

Neusustrum was a detention camp for homosexuals and other political prisoners. Filmed by Willhelm Niemann, teacher and member of the SA. Country fields and barn-like structures in Germany. Three children sit in front of a house with a sloped roof. A young boy swings around a horizontal bar set up in the trees. 10:01:43 “Am Grenzgraben.” People work in a hay field while German officers stand nearby. Two officers in a field look through binoculars. Officers walk out of a property entrance. 10:02:52 CU face of a German officer. A stream. Train tracks through fields and trees. Hayfields. Sheep in the grass, chewing. People dig a long trench through the field. EXT small rural house, steam rises up through the fireplace. More shots of homes in this rural area. A man walks alongside two horses with a cart. Multiple barn-like structures. A windmill. A crane lowers large blocks of material. Bridge over a waterway. Horse pulls the boat up the river. Machine tills soil, fields. A soldier guards men working in a field. Building with large swastika just below the peak of its facade. 10:11:50 Sign,“Emslandhaus. Bauherr: fuehrer a Reichsfauzler Adolf Hitler. Entwortf: Reichsbaumeister Alb. Sprer” Windows on the side of the building. INT rows of tables. People at a table, one man smokes and smiles at the camera. Family at another table, two kids run down the aisle between the tables next. At the front of the room is a stage with two large curtains. This could be a theatre hall. Model ship suspended from the ceiling above the door, artwork and German writing across the rafters: "je großer die auf gaben sind, die uns der Fuhrers felt, desto freudiger werden.” Men in uniform, a young girl, and a woman stand in the doorway. People sit at the banquet hall tables. INT of the hall. Fields outside, more buildings, then again from different angles. Horses in an enclosure. Construction site.
