Scope and Content
General card file index of Jews living in Slovakia, circa 1942-1944. This card file index probably covers those Slovak Jews who had not yet been transported by the Slovak authorities to the border of the Government General or the German Reich and turned over to the German SS and police, and who still lived in the territory of Slovakia. A majority of the cards carry a date stamp (either from 1942 or 1944, starting with September 1942) in the top margin as well as a location stamp, which might indicate a forced labor camp. The cards provide personal data on each person and in some cases also the reason permitting the person to stay in the territory of Slovakia (work permission, baptism etc.). A change in an individual's status (such as later deportation) is indicated by a red stamp "VYST" at the upper corner (VYSTAHOVANY: DEPORTED) with the date stamp of the deportation transport next to it. Some cards also carry a stamp "Súpis D.M.1944" indicating the inclusion of that person in the Jewish Census conducted in 1944. Most cards also carry in the top margin a stamp with the domicile district location or the forced labor camp. Each card bears the following personal data: Meno a priezvisko (u žien i dievč. meno): First name and family name; Miesto a dátum narodenia: Place and date of birth; Bydlisko (presná adresa): Domicile (exact address); Príslušnosť (obec, štát): Place the person was registered in (city, state); Stav: Marital status; Povolanie-zamestnanie: Occupation-Employer; Náboženstvo (...): Religion (if baptized, the date, which church, and the number of the baptismal certificate); Dôvod na základe ktorého sa môže Žid právoplatne zdržovať na území: reason permitting the person to stay in the territory of Slovakia.
