Biographical History

Anita Sockol (born Anita Plachte) was born on September 17, 1927 in Berlin, Germany. She is the only child of Ludwig and Margarete Plachte. Her father worked as a manufacturer of women’s clothing. The Plachte family fled to Holland in April 1938, and arrived in the United States on September 18, 1938.

Anita Sockol donated the Anita Sockol collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1998.

Scope and Content

The Anita Sockol collection consists of two postcards and an autograph album that belonged to Anita Plachte (later Sockol), from mid-1930s, brought out of Nazi-occupied Europe.
