Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the National Archives of Armenia (Hayastani Azgayin Arkhiv). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project in 2013, and accretion in 2015.

Scope and Content

Records related to the evacuation of civilians to Armenia during World War II that includes information about resettlement, employment, financial aid, food supplies and medical assistance provided by the local authorities to evacuees and refugees. Includes lists of evacuees arriving to Armenia from various regions of the former USSR, lists of Polish refugees repatriated to Poland and Jews evacuated from various locations, correspondence of the local authorities pertaining to settlement and employment of evacuees and refugees, statistics, reports, lists of communists, etc.

System of Arrangement

Arranged in six series: 1. Correspondence, minutes of meetings, and orders related to allocation of funds for food and the financial assistance to evacuees; 2. Lists of foreigners, lists of persons of Polish and Jewish nationalities; 3. Records documenting living conditions of the evacuated people; 4. Orders, instructions of the People's Commissar of State Control in Armenia; 5. Lists of Jews evacuated from various locations; 6. Memos, information bulletins, orders and correspondence of the District Committee of Armenia and People's Commissars of the USSR, military and defense activities.
