United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Phyllis and Sidney Leinwand

Sidney and Phyllis Leinwand donated this collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in November 2008.

Scope and Content

Contains photographs and documents related to the experiences of Moses and Mania (nee Pfeffer) Leinwand, who had met and married while hiding in the woods near Przemyslany during World War II. Includes documentation from Deggendorf displaced persons camp; a copy of a handwritten siddur written while in hiding by Moishe Boruchowicz (Borochovitch) of Dzelechov (likely Zelechow), Poland, including names of family members who were murdered in the Holocaust; and a prayer book (siddur) owned by Moses Leinwand, which also includes handwritten notes about the fate of family members. Also includes two large, framed formal group portraits of school children in pre-war Przemlyslany, Poland.
