Biographical History

The Katz Ehrenthal Collection is a collection of more than 900 objects depicting Jews and antisemitic and anti-Jewish propaganda from the medieval to the modern era, in Europe, Russia, and the United States. The collection was amassed by Peter Ehrenthal, a Romanian Holocaust survivor, to document the pervasive history of anti-Jewish hatred in Western art, politics and popular culture. It includes crude folk art as well as pieces created by Europe's finest craftsmen, prints and periodical illustrations, posters, paintings, decorative art, and toys and everyday household items decorated with depictions of stereotypical Jewish figures.

Archival History

The postcard was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2016 by the Katz Family.

Postcard with a color cartoon of a woman standing on the left next to an overturned yellow wicker basket that 2 small dogs on the right are stealing from. She has stereotypical Jewish features, including dark hair, a large nose, and thick lips, and wears a blue dress. She leans forward, raises her eyebrows and hands in surprise, and scowls. Eggs, fish, and a goose have fallen out of the basket. One dog has a fish in its mouth and the other carries away a rectangular box. The back has 2 postmarks, an address, and a green 1 cent United States postage stamp with an image of Benjamin Franklin.
