Biographical History

The Katz Ehrenthal Collection is a collection of more than 900 objects depicting Jews and antisemitic and anti-Jewish propaganda from the medieval to the modern era, in Europe, Russia, and the United States. The collection was amassed by Peter Ehrenthal, a Romanian Holocaust survivor, to document the pervasive history of anti-Jewish hatred in Western art, politics and popular culture. It includes crude folk art as well as pieces created by Europe's finest craftsmen, prints and periodical illustrations, posters, paintings, decorative art, and toys and everyday household items decorated with depictions of stereotypical Jewish figures.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Handcolored print of an etching of a young, finely featured man wearing a large, yellow, star shaped medal, likely the Prince of Wales, talking to 2 money lenders in gentleman’s clothing. The young man is holding his left hand out, the palm turned up expectantly. He holds a riding-whip in his right hand and wears a blue jacket with matching breeches. He is seated on the left, his right leg resting on his left knee. Seated opposite him, both lenders have thick eyebrows and large noses. The lender wearing glasses leans forward to examine a large sheet of paper with seals dangling from the corner. To his left, the other man is wearing a wig and smiling slightly. Centered in the background, there is a small table is set with a coffee service. The title and publication information are printed along the bottom. There are handwritten markings on the back.
