Biographical History
The Katz Ehrenthal Collection is a collection of more than 900 objects depicting Jews and antisemitic and anti-Jewish propaganda from the medieval to the modern era, in Europe, Russia, and the United States. The collection was amassed by Peter Ehrenthal, a Romanian Holocaust survivor, to document the pervasive history of anti-Jewish hatred in Western art, politics and popular culture. It includes crude folk art as well as pieces created by Europe's finest craftsmen, prints and periodical illustrations, posters, paintings, decorative art, and toys and everyday household items decorated with depictions of stereotypical Jewish figures.
Archival History
The etching was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2016 by the Katz Family.

Scope and Content
Satire of an 1809 royal visit to the Great Synagogue (Bevis Marks) of London by three sons of King George III, represented as "Cumberland Lead" (Duke of Cumberland), 'Cambridge Butter' (Duke of Cambridge) and 'Suffolk Cheese' (Duke of Suffolk). The etching is one of the more than 900 items in the Katz Ehrenthal Collection of antisemitic artifacts and visual materials.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Color etching on paper with 5 scowling Jewish men in blue, pink, and yellow robes on the left greeting 3 men in court dress with product symbols in place of their heads. The Jews have tousled gray hair, large, hooked noses, flushed cheeks, and long, pointy beards; 1 holds a lit candelabrum while another carries a thick book. The man leading the groups wears a long, blue robe with yellow stripes and a red sash. He has a bald crown, bushy eyebrows, a large, pointed nose, flushed cheeks, and a long, flowing white beard. Above him is a text balloon: Welcome, thrice Welcome, Bretheren to the Synagogue. He holds his open hands out toward 3 bowing officials dressed identically in orange coats, white waistcoats, white breeches, and holding black coronets. They have packaged goods in place of heads: a gray slab marked CUMBERLAND LEAD, a butter pat marked CAMBRIDGE BUTTUR, and a cheese wheel marked SUFFOLK CHEESE. A caption is printed in a panel at the bottom.
