Biographical History
Silvia Rosenfeld was born Silvia Friedmann on October 13, 1924 in Gherla, Romania to Reghina (nee Jacobs) and Herman Friedmann. She had six siblings including brothers Jakob (Janki) and Bumi and sister Lucica (Lea). Her family was deported to Auschwitz in May 1944, and only she and her brother Bumi survived. She was transferred to a labor camp in October 1944 and then sent on a death march to Volary in April 1945. She convalesced at a hospital in Volary from May to November 1945 and was then tranferred to a sanatorium in Prahatice until February 1946. She returned to Gherla, maarid Martin Rosenfeld in 1947, and had son Erwin in 1951. Her family moved to Munich in 1965. Silvia Rosenfeld gave an oral history interview to the USC Shoah Foundation (6627) in 1995.

Ervin Rosenfeld donated the Friedmann family photograph to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2016. The Friedmann family is the family of Ervin Rosenfeld's mother.
