Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Kielcach, Poland, Sygn. 121. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in Jan. 2016. This is a cooperative project based on the agreement between USHMM and Yad Vashem, Israel.

Scope and Content

Books of the traffic control of population, regulations, orders, budget, and statements of accounts of the Chęciny City Council related to expansion and revitalization of the city, construction industry, education, commerce and trade, and health (no years 1936-1939). In the interwar period the city Chęciny had more than 5,000 residents, including 56% of Jews. Jewish councils were very active in the City Council administration and influential on all city decisions.

Arranged in nine series: 1. Resolutions and provisions of the City Council of the City Chęciny, 1917-1918; 2. Visits of the city authorities, inspection, protocols and directives, 1932-1935; 3. Files of the Magistrate of the City Chęciny: Affairs of the Councils and other officials, 1921-1932; 4. General affairs of the City and district, 1933-1935; 5. Expansion and electrification of the city, 1924 to 1934; 6. School system, cultural and educational affairs, 1932-1935; 7. Health and hospital services, 1932-1933; 8. Constructions of buildings, 1933-1945; 9. Trade, industry and crafts, 1932-1944.
