Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in November 2015.

Scope and Content

Reports, correspondence, statistical data, etc. related to the evacuation of civilians to Kazakhstan during WWII; includes information about resettlement, employment and food supplies and medical assistance provided by the local authorities. Also includes correspondence between the Communist Party and Soviet government officials, lists of evacuees who arrived to Kazakhstan from various regions of the former USSR.

Arranged in the following series: 1. Decrees and decisions of the Communist Party in Kazakhstan, 1941-1942; 2. Lists and various documents relating to evacuation of the scientists, writers, communists, other people and enterprises; 3. Correspondence and notes relating to employment and evacuations.
