Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Żydowski Instytut Historyczny im. Emanuela Ringelbluma (ŻIH), Sygn. S/333. The collection was given to JHI by Mark’s widow in 1966. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from the Ż̇ydowski Instytut Historyczny via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Sep. 2007.

Scope and Content

Contains selected papers of Bernard Mark (1908–1966), a historian of Poland, publicist, communist activist, and director of the Jewish Historical Institute (JHI) from 1949 to 1966. Part I includes materials related to Marks’ career; the Part II, less organized, includes notes made during his archival activity, copies of documents, and some personal materials. There are also photographs and posthumous materials such as memoirs, obituaries, and condolences.

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved in the microfilmed reels. Arranged in two series: 1. (Reel 1-3) Archival documents: testimonies correspondence and essays; 2. (Reel 4-8) Research materials of Bernard Mark (No specific organization).
