Biographical History

Eli Wallach was born on December 7, 1915 to Abraham and Bertha Schor Wallach in Brooklyn, NY. During World War II, he served in the United States Army, spending five years in the medical corps and was ultimately promoted to the rank of captain. After he was discharged, he became a prominent actor on stage, film, and television. He passed away on June 24, 2014.

Acquisition

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Eli Wallach

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2007 by Eli Wallach. Wallach served as a Captain and a Medical Administrative Officer in the U.S. Army. While visiting Berlin, he was taken to the Ministry of Propaganda by a female Russian officer who was assigned to show him around. It was during this tour that he acquired these photographs.
