Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the Arhivele Naţionale ale României (Romanian National Archives), Bihor branch. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection from the Romanian National Archives via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in May 2007 (Microfilm reel 1-6), in May 2009 (microfilm reel 7-11), in May 2010 (Microfilm reel 12-25), in 2011(Microfilm reel 26-36), and in Nov. 2013 (Microfilm reel 37).
Scope and Content
Contains information on the numbers of Jews killed in rural areas of Romania; investigations of Nazis, Iron Guards, and Hungarians by the inspectorate of gendarmerie of Oradea; correspondence of the gendarmerie in Bihor regarding the treatment of Jews, the handling of war criminals and the Iron Guard, Jewish emigration to Palestine, and the treatment of Jews and Romanians by the Hungarians. Police records on the surveillance and/or arrest of individuals in Oradea by order of the new people’s court, information on the internment of ethnic Germans and SS, name lists of Jews and members of the Red Cross in the town of Oradea. Correspondence of the Bihor branch of the Jewish Democratic Committee and other miscellaneous documents on Jews in the prefecture.
