Acquisition

The Foreign Address and Occupation Index (Form G-153) was created to provide Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) users with the names and addresses of aliens in the United States who were employed in an occupation, city, and time period outside the United States between January 1940 and March 1977. The records in this collection span from January 1940-January 1968. G-153 index cards were completed by all immigrants aged 18 to 65 (except those who were housewives or children between 1940 and the date of their immigration) who either: (1) Naturalized after October 1, 1957 in which case, the card will be stamped “NATZ"; (2) Arrived after September 1957; (3) Adjusted status to permanent resident after September 1957; or (4) Entered as conditional entrants admitted under Sec. 203(2)(7) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The original records are currently maintained by the History Office and Library of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which loaned these microfilms to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in January 2006 for the purpose of duplication on the behest of the Museum's Survivors Registry. The microfilms were duplicated and the originals returned to USCIS in February 2006. The Musuem Registry transferred the microfilms to the Musuem Archives in May 2006.
