Biographical History

Sadie Rigal was born in South Africa but moved to Paris, France during World War II, where she was a cabaret performer in the Bal Tabarin nightclub. She was interned as an enemy alien but released. She began to perform again under the name "Florence" with her partner Frederick Apcar, who helped her avoid the authorities

Acquisition

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2006 by Mark Waren and Sadie Rigal Waren.

Scope and Content

Collection of 36 photographs pertaining to Sadie Rigal's experiences during World War II. Included in the collection are photographs of dancing scenes, dance practices, and a trip to Berlin to perform with Edith Piaf and Charles Trenet for French POWs.
