Biographical History
Irvin Wittwer was a soldier with the 11th Armored Division of the United States Army during World War II. The 11th Armored Division were among the first American troops to arrive at Mauthausen after its liberation in May 1945.

The photographs were donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum by Irvin Wittwer in 1989.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of photographs depicting the Mauthausen concentration camp after liberation by the United States Army, as well as scenes from Gallneukirchen, Austria, Rodach, Germany, Bayreuth, Germany, and Cham, Germany.
