United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Nancie Furgang

The photograph was acquired by Samuel Reiss donor's father who served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in France during World War II. The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1988 by Nancie Furgang.

Scope and Content

The photograph is from the London News Agency and depicts a concentration camp inmate sitting amongst dead bodies and waving at the photographer. The photograph was taken at Nordhausen concentration camp after its liberation by American troops in 1945. A caption and description of the liberation from the London News Agency is typewritten on the verso.
