Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (Rossiĭskiĭ gosudarstvennyĭ arkhiv literatury i iskusstva). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project in Sep. 2005.

Scope and Content

Contains records related to the history of the Soviet culture and theater, the Jewish School Theater, Jewish avant-garde art and the Kremlin's policy toward Jewish society and culture from 1919 until the early 1950s. The collection contains minutes of the educational bureau, reports on the progress in studies, photos of performances, biographies and photos of actors, personal files of employees, personal files of students, newspaper clippings related to the Jewish Theater performances, lists of the Young Communist League members, lists of awarded employees, lists of students, historical essays, and school financial documents.
