Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Arhivele Naţionale ale României (Romanian National Archives), Iaşi Branch; Inventory: 261, 508, 510, 622, 846, 859, 860, 861, 862, 863, 1241, 1249, 1433. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection from the Romanian National Archives via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in June 2005 (microfilm reel 1-21), in May 2007 (microfilm reel 22 -27), and in May 2010 (microfilm reel 28 -30).

Scope and Content

Contains records relating to aryanization, authorization for Jews to travel, authorizations for Jews to engage in commerce, statistics, lists of Jewish persons who were evacuated to Transnistria, wartime and postwar censuses of Jews, confiscation of Jewish property, forced labor of Jews, citizenship issues, and surveillance of the Iron Guard by the government. Includes selected files from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Iaşi; Prefecture of Police of Iaşi; five territorial police districts of Iaşi; the Prefecture of Iasi district; the mayorship of Iaşi; and the Royal District of the Prut area.
