Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the Center for the Studies of History and Culture of East European Jewry (Judaica Center) of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Kyiv, Ukraine. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the photocopied collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project in Jan. 2004.
Scope and Content
The collection includes the oral history transcripts of Ukrainian Jews who were born between 1894 and 1949, recorded by the staff of the Judaica Institute of Kiev, Ukraine, for their project. Transcripts have detailed information about the daily life, religious activities, family life, education, and survival through pre-war pogroms, and survival during the Holocaust and after World War II.
System of Arrangement
Organized in the following order: The collection is organized alphabetically, and is arranged by sub-group numbers. There are 53 sub-groups. Sub-groups 1-19 are from the first shipment of materials transferred in December of 2003. Sub-groups 20-36 are from the first accretion of materials transferred in February of 2005. Sub-groups 37-53 are from the second accretion of oral history materials transferred in November of 2005. This collection is only partially digitized. Files RG-31.02720 through RG-31.02752 are digitally available. Files RG-31.02701 through RG-31.02719 and File RG-31.027*53 were not digitized. There is no concordance available relating the file numbers to Box/Folder numbers. The Museum holds 16 boxes numbered 7-12 and 17-26.
