Acquisition

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2004 by Deborah Maarsen-Laufer.

Scope and Content

The collection contains photographs, correspondence, and documents relating to the exeriences of the Laufer family in Germany and the Netherlands during the Holocaust. The collection includes pre-World War II photographs of Elizabeth and Wilhelm Laufer and their daughters, Gisela, Margreet, and Deborah [donor], as well as a letter written from Elizabeth who was interned in Ravensbrück with her daughters to Wilhelm who was interned in Buchenwald, post-war documents issued to the Laufer women liberated in Bergen-Belsen, and post-war photographs of the family and three additional children born after the family reunited.
