In 2001, an exhibition in Paris displayed magazines written by children in the Theresienstadt (Terezin) ghetto, and included "Hlas Pudy Q306," which is owned by the Jewish Museum in Prague, Czech Republic. A pamphlet from this exhibition was sent to Vera Kornova-Bondy, older sister of Mariana Kornova, the editor-in-chief of "Hlas Pudy Q306." Mrs. Kornova-Bondy had previously not known about the existence of her sister's magazine and obtained copies from the Jewish Museum in Prague. She and her grandson, Adrian, completed translations of the magazines into English and donated copies to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives on Jan. 16, 2004.
Scope and Content
Contains photocopies of "Hlas Pudy Q306", a children's magazine written and published by eleven children, all under the age of twelve, who lived in the attic numbered Q306 in the Theresienstadt (Terezin) ghetto in Czechoslovakia. The children--editor-in-chief Mariana Kornova, Zdenek Grunhut, Hana Brockova, Jiri Kreisl, Anita Brandeisova, Tomas Sladkus, Jan Brod, Petr Abrahamovsky, Petr Fischl, Tommy Brandais, and Kitty Langendorfova--all perished in Auschwitz in the fall of 1944. In the magazine, they wrote short stories, poems, puzzles, and humorous observations about their lives and about conditions in the ghetto. Also includes full English translations.
