Biographical History

Zygmunt Jastrzębski was born April 24, 1920 in Lubochnia to Walenty and Maria Jastrzębski. He was a Roman Catholic shoemaker. He was arrested in Lubochnia by the Gestapo as a political prisoner on August 19, 1940 and transferred to Buchenwald three days later. His records indicate that he was subjected to medical experiments involving typhus injections in Block 46 in 1943. He was liberated by the US Army on May 5, 1945.

Zygmunt Jastrzębski donated the postcard to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1989.

Scope and Content

Zygmunt Jastrzębski wrote the postcard in Buchenwald concentration camp addressed to his sister, Hania Jastrzębska. In the postcard he writes that he is well and asks for news.
