Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Schweizerisches Bundesarchiv (Swiss Federal Archives). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received a first part of microfilm reels via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project in May 2002 and a second part in June 2003. The entire collection was digitized in the Museum in 2017.

Scope and Content

Contains files concerning control of Jewish and other refugees coming into Switzerland; on activities of Swiss-Jewish rescue and charity organizations; on Swiss legations in various European countries reporting on relevant matters; on communications of the United States, Great Britain, and Germany; on establishment and operation of labor camps and homes for refugees, and the like. It includes material on Jewish self-help organizations in Switzerland, Jewish communities in Switzerland, and labor camps for Jews in Switzerland. Includes approximately 3,500 case files from the child refugee aid organization Schweizer Hilfswerk für Emigrantenkinder (SHEK).

Selected records of the Bestand E 2001; E 4800; E 4001; E 4110; E 4300; E 4320; E 2200; E 4260; E 2800; E 9500; J 2.55; J 2.15; E 2803; J 2.11; E 27; E 5795. Case files from the Schweizer Hilfswerk für Emigrantenkinder (SHEK), archival code J 2.55, are found on reels 422-531. Two addtional microfilm reels #609 and #610 contain duplicates of the Bestand E 2200.16 (-)-/3 and J2.15 (-) 1969/7. Reel 609: Convoi Israélites susses 1943.
