Acquisition

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project ordered the filming of the records from the Yad Vashem in 1998. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the microfilm reels in 1999.

Scope and Content

Contains records created and collected by the central and regional groups of the Association of Jews in Belgium (Association des juifs de Belgique), formed on November 25, 1941, at the order of the German occupation authorities, to serve as a national Judenrat. The materials consist mostly of registration forms containing personal data completed by all Jews in Belgium and registration forms containing data about Jewish-owned businesses and other properties. Additionally, there are files of change of address forms, organizations offering aid to refugees, immigration applications and processes, fund-raising to aid refugees, administrative files for aid organizations (HICEM, HIAS, Jüdische Kultusgemeinde Prague, Association Belge pour l'Emigration des Refugiés, Comité Voor Joodische Vluchtelingen, Shanghai Municipal Council, Comitato Italiano di Assistenza agli Emigranti Ebrei, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, etc.), financial records, name lists of Jewish refugees, files on forced labor, organizing emigration transportation, and the like.
