Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the National Archives of France (Archives Nationales), Paris, Fond F7. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Programs Division in Dec. 2000 and an accretion of digitized microfilm in Jan. 2022.
Scope and Content
This collection contains police records, including files on national security, the General Secretariat of the Police, the campaign against “terrorism” organized by Vichy, internment camps, and records of the Fichier Central in the Cabinet du Directeur Général de la Sureté Nationale. The collection also includes correspondence and other documents confiscated from emigrants, lists of foreign Jews who were arrested and interned (arranged by country of origin), the personal records of various public figures, newspaper clippings, surveillance reports, and mixed documents. More specifically, the collection contains: National security, 1885-1944; General Secretariat of the Police, 1941-1944; Campaign against "terrorism" organized by Vichy; Camps d'internement, 1940-49; Records of the Fichier Central in the Cabinet du Directeur General de la Sûreté Nationale, 1935-1944. Collection is comprised of correspondence and other documents confiscated from emigrants, lists of foreign Jews arrested and interned (arranged by country of origin),1942-43, personal records of various public figures, newspapers clippings, surveillance reports, and mixed documents, 1924-1962. Surveillance reports include: Germans in France, 1920-1940; Spanish refugees in France, 1921-1940; Poles in France, 1920-1940. The collection further contains records documenting the liquidation of internment camps, 1946-1956; files from the so-called “Fonds Panthéon” (named for the celebrity or notoriety of the individuals included); records and decrees documenting the status of foreigners, 1929-1967.
