Biographical History

The Salonika Palestine Corporation was the financial banking agent associated with the Salonika Palestine Bureau and served the purpose of supporting, financially and otherwise, the work of the Palestine Bureau. It assisted in selecting candidates for emigration and helped finance their move to Palestine, created employment for them and for temporary migrants (including Halutzim headed to Palestine for three years of temporary employment), and financed kibbutzim and Jewish industrial projects in Palestine. It also aided in the Purchase of lands for the establishment of agricultural and urban settlements in Palestine.

Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Russian State Military Archive (Rossiĭskiĭ gosudarstvennyĭ voennyĭ arkhiv), Osobyi Archive, Fond 1437. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in 1993.

Scope and Content

Correspondence with banks and manufacture companies, including with the Jewish Colonial Bank in London, American Jewish Joint Distributions Committee, Salonika Palestine Bank, and others. Includes statistics of financial activities, loans, bank expenses, lists of prices of manufacture goods, contracts and power of attorney between bank and different clients. Note: USHMM Archives holds only selected records.
