Yivo Institute for Jewish Research

Acquisition

Union géńeralé des Israélites de France created the records from 1941 to 1944. They were transferred to Yivo Institute for Jewish Research in the years following World War II. Processing of the orginal records lasted from 1944 until 1957 and received the YIVO record group number 210. Yivo microfilmed the collection from 1988 to 1990. The Archives acquired a copy of the film in 1996.

Contains information about the establishment of the Union générale des Israélites de France (UGIF) and its work in the Northern and Southern zones of occupied France; work of the Comité de coordination; work of the president and secretariat; Jewish census in France; aid for camp internees; UGIF finance and administration; liaisons with police departments; employees of UGIF; homes for the aged; care of children and orphans; UGIF social services; education and sports; medical welfare; food services and agriculture; the Commissariat général aux Questions Juives (CGQJ); Jewish war veterans and former prisoners of war; "detention camps" in France; and antisemitism and anti-Jewish legislation in Vichy France.
