The records were created by the United States government during the 12 trials held from 1946 to 1949 subsequent to the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The court proceedings, in both English and German, eventually became part of NARA Records Group 238, World War II War Crimes Records. Duplication of the collections received by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in July 1995.

Scope and Content

Contains proceedings, exhibits, and other court documents from the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial, United States v. Karl Brandt et al., the "Medical Case" (Case I), November 1946 to August 1947, prosecuting Karl Brandt and others for crimes against humanity during World War II. The proceedings contain information about medical experiments conducted on concentration camp prisoners; euthanasia programs carried out on the mentally ill and others; and killing of camp inmates for the express purpose of collecting skeletons for medical research. A list of defendants' names is provided in NARA pamphlet M887.
