Biographical History

Fred Ederer was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1926. Fred emigrated from Austria with his parents and brother to the United States in 1939. In 1944 he enlisted with the United States Navy. Fred later married Hilda Tomar.

Acquisition

The memoir was written by Fred Ederer in 1988. He sent a copy to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in early Mar. 1993, and it was transferred to the Archives Branch later that month. This material has been digitized by the Leo Baeck Institute and is part of a larger collection of material donated to the LBI by Fred Ederer.

Scope and Content

The memoir describes Fred Ederer's memories of Kristallnacht in Vienna and his family's encounters with Nazis who confiscated their property and threatened to deport his father.
