Acquisition
Charles Apfelbaum, a dealer in rare books and collections, purchased these materials at auction. Original and copies of materials were created or collected by Artur Rosenthal and family; the Malz/Finkelstein family; Alois Schwarz; and Rita Rimalower and the Eskenasi family. Apfelbaum donated the materials to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives in Aug. 1992.
Scope and Content
Contains correspondence, photographs, poems and various other documents relating to the persecution and incarceration of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe, especially at Gurs concentration camp in France. Also contains information about attempts at emigration by members of the Malz, Finkelstein, Rosenthal, Schwarz, and Rimalower families.
