Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Lietuvos centrinis valstybės archyvas (Lithuanian Central State Archives), Fond 1421. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Programs Division ordered the filming of the records in 1998. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the microfilm reels in June 1999.

Scope and Content

Contains records of various ghetto organizations and agencies. Included are orders and regulations of the Jewish council and police, as well as correspondence between departments and subordinate offices. There are also personal documents and documents on the ghetto health and social security offices.

System of Arrangement

The system of arrangement of the source repository has been preserved in the microfilmed reel. This collection is arranged thematically and chronologically in six series: 1. Instructions, orders and announcements; 2. Jewish council records; 3. Inspection department records; 4. Registration department records; 5. Ghetto council team- leaders; 6. Programs, announcements, posters of theatre performances, concerts, sport competitions, held in the ghetto.
