D. A. Weckwerth donated the D. A. Weckwerth papers to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1999.
Scope and Content
The D. A. Weckwerth papers consists of a letter written by liberator, D.A. Weckwerth, addressed to Mary Ann, written from Eisenach, Germany, June 1, 1945; three black-and white-photographs of Eisenach; one negative; and three copies of photographs from Eisenach, Germany. The letter describes Weckwerth's visit to Buchenwald concentration camp, including the descriptions of the camp and buildings, its survivors and victims, and German civilians tasked with "cleaning the place up."
