The Asociación Filantrópica Israelita (AFI) was founded in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1933 by German-Jewish immigrants with the aim to assist fellow Jewish refugees who had fled Nazi persecution and had emigrated to Argentina.

Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Asociación Filantrópica Israelita (AFI), Argentina. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from the AFI via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in October 2012.

Scope and Content

Contains membership card index of the Asociación Filantrópica Israelita (AFI), with approximately 20,000 names of Jewish refugees, mostly from Nazi Germany (including Nazi annexed Austria), who emigrated to Argentina between the years 1933 to 1939. Also includes the names and biographical data of a few Jewish refugees from Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and other countries in Europe. The card index was periodically updated through the 1970s.

Arranged alphabetically: DVD 1: A-F; DVD 2: G-J; DVD 3: K-M; DVD 4: N-S1; DVD 5: S2-Z.
