Acquisition

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Diane Flescher, MD and Sylvia Flescher, MD

Donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2014 by Diana and Sylvia Flescher.

Scope and Content

Correspondence sent by Kalman and Sala Flescher of Stanisławów, Poland (modern-day Ivano-Frankivsʹk, Ukraine), to their son, Joachim Flescher, who was living in Italy, during the period 1936-1942. Also includes correspondence from Flescher's sisters, Zofia Flescher Uhrman and Gusta Flescher. Joachim Flescher attended medical school in Italy and remained in close contact with his family and with his girlfriend Klara, who apparently visited him in Italy. All the plans of rescuing the family through Costa Rica didn't materialize and Dr. Flescher had to hide in Italy with the help of his future wife, Anny Riesen.
