Biographical History

Walter Fritzler (b. 1881) was born in Arnsberg, Germany and attended school in 1939 to become a butler. He married Agnes Ephraim (1890-1959), born in Posen to Leo Ephraim, in 1923 and they have one son, Gerhard. Agnes was an orthopedic gymnast and worked with various medical facilities providing medical gymnastic services. Gerhard (now Geoffrey) Fritzler (b. 1924), was born in Breslau, Germany. Geoffrey was able to go to England on a Kindertransport in December 1938. Walter and Agnes survived the war in Germany on false papers.

Geoffrey and Barbara Fritzler donated this collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1998.

Scope and Content

The Fritzler family papers consists of biographical materials and emigration and immigration files documenting Walter, Agnes, and Geoffrey Fritzers education and work experiences in anticipation of their emigration. The collection also includes photographic material of Walter, Agnes, and Geoffrey. Biographical materials include a birth certificate for Geoffrey, marriage certificate for Walter and Agnes, and a death certificate for Agnes. This series also includes a Declaration of Inheritance from Geoffrey Fritzler. Emigration and immigration files include education and work papers Walter and Agnes collected in preparation for emigrating from Germany and responses from aid organizations regarding the family’s attempts to leave Germany. Photographic materials include three individual photographs of Walter, Agnes, and Geoffrey Fritzler
