Michael Spillias was a member of the 11th Armored Division of the U.S. Third Army. He was a Private First Class, Battery A, 491st Field Artillery Battalion.

Acquisition

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Judy Rosshirt

Judith Rosshirt donated her father's photographs to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in March 2011. Publications related to the 11th Armored Division were transferred to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Library.

Scope and Content

Consists of six photographs taken by Michael Spillias, a member of the 11th Armored Division, after the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp. The photographs depict the collection and reburial of corpses as well as of survivors who were liberated at the camp.
