Donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2011 by Dr. Hannah Starman and Dr. Irena Sumi.

Scope and Content

Consists of photocopies of original documents collected from various archives in Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, and Italy, pertaining to Jewish life in Slovenia from the mid-19th century to the late 20th century. Incudes copies of birth and death certificates; community membership lists; individual, community and industrial property listings; deportation lists; documents related to the aliyah of Slovenian Jews and the subsequent confiscation of their property; individual files pertaining to expropriation of Jewish properties by the Nazis and later by the Communist regime; documents pertaining to the efforts by the post-independence Jewish Community of Slovenia to reclaim its pre-war property; the archives of the Jewish Community of Slovenia; recorded and partly transcribed testimonies of Slovenian Holocaust survivors, including visual material; and general documentation pertaining to Jews in Slovenia (e.g., federal instructions as to how to treat Jewish property after the war, dealing with heirless property and decimated Jewish communities).
