Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Arhivele Naţionale ale României (Romanian National Archives), Maramureş branch, Fond Prefectura Judeţului Maramureş, 1946, Inv. 308. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection from the Romanian National Archives, via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s International Archives Project in January 2011.

Scope and Content

Contains records from the Prefecture of the District of Maramureş including orders of the Ministries of Interior and Defense concerning the rights of Jews, as well as the approval from the Ministry of Interior for the activites of a Mizrahi Zionist organization in Sighet. Also contains documents concerning bandits from Viseul de Sus.
