Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Unione della communita israelitiche italiane, Roma (Union of Italian Jewish Communities in Rome), Italy. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Program in August, 2010.

Scope and Content

Contains records relating to the situation of Italian Jews across Italy, with a larger section focusing on Rome and depicting the response of the Italian Jewish communities to both the racial laws and the deportations.

System of Arrangement

The original records consists of 141 boxes, organized in 637 folders in chronological order between 1934-1948, and subdivided into the following subject groups: Record Group 43: Asilo Israeliti; Record Group 44: Assistenza ebrei profughi Delasem records (Delegazione Assistenza emigranti Ebrei); Record Group 45: Delasem records (Delegazione Assistenza emigranti Ebrei); 55: Assistenza agli ebrei negli istituti pubblici; 71: Censimento; 85: Antisemitismo; 91: Erez Israel e stato Ebraico; 92: Situazione sugli ebrei nel mondo; 93: Folder D and E (American Joint Distribution Committee, Congresso Mondiale Ebraico 1946); Record Group: Comitato recherche deportati ebrei.
