Oberösterreichisches Landesarchiv

Acquisition

From the Oberösterreichisches Landesarchiv (State Archives of Upper Austria), archival signature C17. These records were collected from various district governments (Bezirkshauptmannschaften) by the State Archives of Upper Austria (Oberösterreichisches Landesarchiv) in 1946 on behalf of the Austrian federal government. In the decades after 1946 several accretions were added, including Nazi Party membership and other card files found in the cellar of the Bezirkshauptmannschaft Gmunden. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection from the State Archives of Upper Austria via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archives Project in June 2009.

Scope and Content

Contains documents on illegal Nazi activities in Austria before its annexation to Germany in March 1938. Topics covered include the Nazi administration in Oberdonau from 1938 to 1945 and the Aryanization of Jewish property, as well as postwar denazification.The collection includes records from the Bezirkshauptmannschaften of Braunau am Inn; Eferding; Gmunden; Grieskrichen; Kirchdorf an der Krems; Linz-Land; Ried im Innkreis; Schärding; and Steyr.
