Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Central Board of the Jewish Communities of Greece. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archival Programs in April 2009, and accretion in 2015.

Scope and Content

Consists mainly of files of correspondence between various Greek Jewish communities, with Greek governmental authorities concerning the restitution of the property of Greek Jews, and with international Jewish organizations concerning remembrance. Also included is correspondence with various other, but primarily German, organizations and authorities concerning reparations.

System of Arrangement

Arranged in three series: 1. Correspondence of the Central Board of Jewish Communities (KIS) with international Jewish organizations; 2. Lists of names of Greek Jews killed in the extermination camps, relevant correspondence and organising of commemoration ceremonies.; 3. Press clippings and publications on the campaign by KIS for reparations, 1961, and participation of Greek Jews in the National Resistance during the German Occupation.
