(LIB 6088) Various shots of the grounds of Allach, a subcamp of Dachau, including shots of the barracks, fences, and guard towers. Low overhead shot of freed prisoners in striped uniforms. Slate indicates that the cameraman is Gerzen, member of the 163rd Signal Photo Company and gives additional information: date 4/30/1945; 45th Div., 157th Inf. Regt., 1st Btn., 3rd Btn., 7th Army, Germany. Freed inmates wave vigorously from behind the barbed wire fence. Blurry CUs of some of the men. Survivors stand beside an American flag. Good CUs of former prisoners, including at least one woman. Former prisoners stand in front of a pile of gravel and lime containing human remains. CU of the face of a dead man visible in the pile. Smiling former prisoner with a blanket over his shoulder. A slate indicates that the location is now Munich. American soldiers with a crowd of German civilians. The Americans board jeeps and tanks and drive down the street. Wide shot of American GIs walking down a street with destroyed buildings on either side. They walk through a group of civilians, one of whom carries a white flag. CU of a man with a Hitler mustache. American soldiers in jeeps and tanks drive down the streets. Soviet soldiers on a raft cross the Elbe River to meet waiting American troops. There are film and still cameramen aboard the raft. Major General Emil F. Reinhardt of the 69th Infantry Division, and Major Clarence R. Huebner of the V Corps meet with Soviet Major Generals Ruskov and Backenau near Torgau. Soviet soldiers dance while another plays the accordion, and American soldiers look on. A man described in the NARA record as an "English war artist" paints a portrait of female Soviet soldiers. (LIB 6117) Slate indicates that the cameraman is Pat Rapp of the 165th Signal Company (First Army, Second Division). The date is April 26. Several Americans get into a small boat and cross the Elbe. The American officers shake hands with the Russians. CU of Major General Reinhardt. American soldiers crane to get a glimpse (and to film and photograph) the meeting of the generals. Major General Reinhardt and Ruskov walk down a dusty road flanked by soldiers from both armies. Ruskov and Reinhardt shake hands.
