Scope and Content

(LIB 6181) A soldier holds up a slate that reads: "30 April 45, Hitler's Room Landsberg Prison." The cameraman's name is Olin. Far view of the prison. A street sign reads "Hindenburg-Ring." Various exterior shots of the prison. Men hang flags (surrender?) out of two prison windows. Two guard watchtowers and downed fencing, presumably part of the prison complex. 01:39:09 Two uniformed American soldiers and a civilian wearing a white armband enter Hitler's former prison cell. The civilian points out details in the cell, including a guest book and a portrait of Hitler hanging on the wall. He points out several signatures in the guest book but they are illegible. More outdoor views of the prison. 01:40:14 (LIB 6183) Halftracks and M-4 tanks of the "A" and "C" Companies, 16th Cavalry Regiment, 12th Armored Division, XXI Corps, Seventh US Army move along the road in the direction of Weilheim. Footage shot from a moving vehicle. Individuals and small groups of German soldiers surrender to American troops. A tank pushes through a log barrier across a road. Burning houses in a field; more German soldiers surrender. Quick LS of a prison camp followed by happy prisoners greeting American troops from behind the camp enclosure. The NARA story card indicates that these are Polish army prisoners. American troops with rifles encounter a group of uniformed Germans with arms raised in surrender. More smiling, waving Polish army officers. Surrendering German troops run down a road. 01:42:45 Corpses of two executed SS men lie in the street, regarded by men in civilian dress. A large group of German soldiers surrender. The description from the NARA story card reads: "German Maj. Gen. Alfred Petray surrendering his garrison." Good CUs of the general and panning shots of his men. One of the German soldiers holds up a large white flag. Very dark interior shots for several seconds. German soldiers lead US soldiers across a mined river. American troops move through the streets of Murnau without encountering any opposition. Civilians appear to watch the Americans. More shots of tanks travelling down a country road.
