A religious ceremony (a Firmung, or Firmelung, is a confirmation) in the town of Lette, attended by Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen, Archbisop of Münster. German intertitles describe the action. Citizens of the town of Lette, including women and children standing along the roadside and a number of uniformed men on horseback, line the road at the border between Coesfeld and Lette. 10:02:20 The bishop arrives in a horse-drawn carriage and is greeted by the most important of the town's citizens. Men on bicylces, then men on horseback, ride through the streets, which are decorated with flags and banners. The bishop's carriage comes down the street. Graf von Galen with other members of the clergy. Close view at 10:04:32. At 10:05:51 Men and boys carry religious banners in a "procession to the church." Graf von Galen walks under a canopy in the procession. The procession is shown entering the church. The citizens and then Graf von Galen leave the church after the service. Shots of the crowd and the procession. The bishop makes his way in the procession to the vicarage and speaks to some of the children. Good closeups and medium close views of Bishop von Galen throughout. Clemens August Graf von Galen, who became Archbishop of Münster in 1933, was one of the first Catholic clerics to take the National Socialist loyalty oath, but he soon spoke out against the racial policies of the Nazis. In 1941 he publicly denounced the Nazi euthanasia program.
