Several Frenchmen, some of whom wear the uniforms of high-ranking officers and some of whom are in civilian dress, visiting the Canadian World War I memorial at Vimy, France. They survey a vast fortification system dug into the earth and lined with sandbags. The camera focuses on a sign reading "Canadian Front Line, 1917." The scene switches to show soldiers (French?) marching across a town square, then back to the men inspecting the fortification. The camera pans along sidewalks and streets, picking out clothes and other possessions, including a dressmaker's dummy and a store mannequin. More shots of buildings burning. Soldiers and/or fireman remove furniture from one store. 01:28:02 Soldiers of the British Expeditionary Force boarding ships at Boulogne. Wounded men are unloaded from ambulances and carried aboard on stretchers. As each man boards, an identification tag is removed from a button on his jacket. At one point two women are visible, wearing helmets.
